Early this year only fifty percent of Mormons in the United States said they’d get vaccinated against COVID-19, even though their exalted leaders told them to do it. White Evangelicals were in the same area. Those numbers have changed for the better over the course of the year, but this still begs the question – if the religious congregations are, as Joseph puts it, “looking to leader-provider” for direction, why refuse those orders specifically?
